About Rick

Rick's Background

Rick Essex

December 6, 1956 - August 2, 2020

He sold Slurpees.

Rick would tell people who asked him what he did for a living this—living the American Dream, owning a 7-Eleven franchise in Las Vegas for over 40 years. Rick was an eclectic entrepreneur; he dabbled in many areas, and as he did, he grew friendships in the associations he made. He knew no strangers and looked upon everyone as a friend, eager to help and always willing to lend a hand where it was needed to make things right.

His natural ability to connect and care made him the humanitarian we all came to love so much. No matter what he did in life, his heart was anchored by the love he held for his family. If we take only one thing away from his life, it was that he placed family first. To say that he will be missed is an understatement.
